We Tea/The Stain of Sound

We tea/The Stain of Sound is an immersive installation developed through a studio-based tea ceremony performance.

Rooted in intimate gatherings with friends, family and visitors, each session becomes a durational act of presence where tea residues, spontaneous poems and physical traces quietly record shared experience. Sound functions as a residue of these performances, while tea stains accumulate as visible records of time. Together, they create a space that invites deep listening, both inward and outward.

The ACE x firstdraft Short-term Residency is a three-month, project-based residency at ACE, followed by a solo exhibition at firstdraft, an artist-led gallery in Sydney. Supported by an artist fee, materials budget and travel bursary, this opportunity is designed to connect South Australian artists with national audiences and exhibiting contexts.

Interdisciplinary artist Jingwei Bu has been awarded the 2025 ACE x firstdraft Short-term Residency, selected from a competitive pool of applicants.
